I’m Shawn Pedani, licensed clinical social worker based in Canal Fulton, Ohio, and I’ve been practicing for over 20 years. I specialize in helping adults and couples work through anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and relationship challenges. I started Asbury Counseling because I believe healing begins with feeling truly seen and supported.

FAQ

  • Online therapy can be an effective and convenient way to access mental health services. But that doesn't mean that it is right for everyone. Whether or not online therapy may be appropriate for you depends on your condition and the severity of your symptoms.

  • If you’re asking this question, you probably already have an answer deep down. Most people don’t search for a therapist because things are going great-they reach out when something feels off. Maybe your mind won’t shut off at night, or you’ve started snapping at people you care about. Maybe you’re constantly second-guessing yourself, feeling stuck in your own head, or just burned out from holding it all together.

    Therapy can help if:

    • You feel anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally exhausted

    • You’re dealing with stress, relationship problems, or life transitions

    • You find yourself avoiding things, procrastinating, or overthinking everything

    • You’ve lost interest in things that used to bring you joy

    • You want to understand why you feel this way and how to change it

You don’t have to wait until everything falls apart. Therapy is a space to pause, get support, and start feeling like yourself again—before things spiral.

  • Yes, several free online counseling services are available. Platforms like iPrevail and 7 Cups offer peer support and access to self-guided mental health programs. Additionally, nonprofit organizations like Crisis Text Line provide immediate support for those in distress.

  • Does insurance cover counseling?

Yes, most insurance plans are required to cover mental health counseling services under the Affordable Care Act. However, coverage details vary by plan, and you'll typically need to pay your deductible, copay, or coinsurance. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to verify your specific benefits and copay amounts. Our office is happy to help you understand your coverage and can assist with insurance claims.

  • It really depends on what you're coming in for and what goals you have. Some people start feeling better after just a few sessions, while others want longer-term support to work through deeper patterns. I typically work with clients for 8 to 12 sessions when we’re focusing on anxiety, depression, or life stress—but therapy is never one-size-fits-all.

We'll talk about what you're hoping to get out of therapy and check in along the way. Whether you’re looking for short-term help with specific tools or want to go deeper into patterns that have been around for a while, we’ll figure out a pace and plan that makes sense for you.

The most important thing? You don’t have to commit to months of therapy up front. We take it one step at a time.
